Alexander Kitten
This is a story about Alexander Kitten.
My youngest son is an animal lover, and cats especially have captured his heart. Alexander Kitten was once known simply as “Kitty” until his grandmother picked him up a very old book at a garage sale to add to his cherished cat book collection. Well, this book was a smashing success with Kitty, so much so, that he decided to be henceforth called “Alexander Kitten”.
Alexander Kitten was sad, however, that he didn’t look so much like the other kitties that he sees. So he asked Mother Cat (that’s me, meow) to help him to look more like a cat. Mother Cat admired the orange fur in the book that Alexander Kitten had, but most of all she loved the cat that she had tenderly loved for over ten years, the cat that had cuddled her elder son when he was just a wee little thing. And so she decided to make the best of both worlds, allowing Alexander to look more like a cat and creating a tribute to her own sweet kitty.
The pattern is found as a Ravelry ($4.95) download here. My notes are here. The hat was done in simple crochet and used big black buttons that had been passed down to Mother Cat from family. The blue eyes and pink nose come straight from Mother Cat’s love and memory of her old Siamese, and the playfulness and joy that appear as soon as the hat is donned comes straight from Alexander Kitten’s cheerful heart.
Some of you may wonder whether or not Alexander Kitten actually is a real cat, but I can assure you by the chocolatey paw prints that he leaves upon our cabinets… he is.
