Amish Spring Cross Stitch
Happy spring! Today is officially the first full day of spring. You wouldn’t know it here, though, if you were looking out the window. I have the heat cranked inside and outside, there are a few random snowflakes falling in our 20-something degree weather. This has been such a long, cold winter, but it’s all so much more tolerable knowing that we’re close to the end of it.
So in honor of the spring equinox, I spent yesterday finishing up this Amish Spring cross stitch that I’ve been working on. I got this lovely cross-stitch booklet a few years ago from my mother-in-law’s enormous collection, and my goal for the year is to finish one each season. Success so far! I still have a bit of backstitching to do for the final touches (like the wheels on the buggys) but I’m quite happy with it overall.
The booklet is called Amish Seasons by Linda Myers, and is a beautiful collection of four Amish landscapes through the seasons. I have this great image of all four cross-stiches finished and hanging on the wall right over my spinning wheel… I’m thinking that I may even stain the outside of the embroidery hoop the same color I stained my wheel. Hmmm, and eventually add a hand-stitched quilt … I may be getting just a little bit ahead of myself now!
Whatever your spring looks like today (or fall, in the southern hemisphere), I hope it’s filled with much beauty and joy and promises of wonderful things to come.
