Coming Back
Hey all!
It’s been a while since my last update, and for that I apologize. I’m sure many others out there can relate when I tell you that I don’t even know where the time went! Shouldn’t it be about May or June right now? But here we are, getting ready to go into October. Watch out, tomorrow will be Christmas! ;)
Thank you to all of you who sent me kind notes. I think I’ve responded to each email I’ve received so if you wrote me and didn’t get a response, check your spam folder. (If still nothing, send it again!)
So what have I been up to for the past few months?
Well, I’ve started homeschooling not one – but two – children this year. I can honestly say that’s been the area where the greatest amount of my time has gone. I don’t know what I expected, or maybe I’m just a little overly organized about it all, but I almost put in an 8-hour day simply doing that – 5 hours of school, along with two hours of lesson planning and printing, and another half hour or so of record keeping. But it’s totally worth it, watching my children learn and doing it together as a family – and wearing pajamas.
We’ve also spent a lot of time outdoors, enjoying the end of summer. All the fall festivals and apple harvests are starting now, and it’s one of my favorite times of the year. Just the act of noticing that the leaves on the trees that were green yesterday are suddenly golden today is inspirational to my children, and I try to see the world through their eyes in that aspect.
My kitchen has been my workstation lately too! I was blessed by friends, family and local farmers with an abundant harvest. We were inundated with peppers, tomatoes and other fresh garden produce, and I spent quite a good deal of time cooking, baking and otherwise preserving it as best I could. I played around with some great recipes that I plan on sharing and I’m looking forward to all that the fall harvest has in store for me as well.
Unfortunately, the area that has suffered a bit has been crochet. I think I needed a little break from hooking after taking on a few projects for others that I just wasn’t that into. When it became more of a chore than a joy was when I knew I needed to take a time-out for myself. It was only last week, when one of my best friends moved into a new place and found her kitchen was looking rather sparse did I finally become inspired and started whipping her up a lovely and bright kitchen set to make the place feel more like home. And that was all it took to remind me how much I missed crocheting and how much more I still want to make.
So thanks for sticking around with me during this little hiatus that I took, and do stop back soon. I have so many recipes, crafts, and ideas that I want to share, I feel like I could write a blog post a mile long. But I won’t do that to you! ;) Oh, and for those of you who asked for a newsletter subscription – I am working on that and will hopefully have it up in the next few days! I’m honored and humbled for the interest in my little blog, and look forward to “hearing” from you all soon!
Mellie
